Donation to Father-In-Law

In 1997 my father-in-law started having lots of problems with his kidneys due to diabetes. By the summer of 1998 they had failed and he was on dialysis. Soon me, my wife, her brothers and her mom went to the University of Michigan Transplant Center to be tested for possible donation. It turned out that I was the only one who had the correct blood type to even continue testing. After two or three more trips for tests, I was given the go ahead to donate.

We did the transplant on Sept. 30, 1998. I was off work about six weeks ( only because they would not let me go back ). I seriously think I could have gone back after a week or so! It went really smooth. Here it is over 7 years later and that Kidney is still working GREAT!
