Hall of Fame Story: In October of 2001, it was apparent that Leslie was not going to make the transplant list in time to save her life. Years of Hep C had left her with no liver function, and painful ascites and swelling. St. Louis University Hospital where Leslie was being treated had just hired a surgeon from Mount Sinai and he was eager to do live adult to adult liver transplants, as he had done at his previous institution. After a 6 month strenuous, thorough work-up, Carol finally was approved as a perfect donor, only the second ever done at SLU-H. As the baby of 7 children, a young 33 years of age, she knew she was the only one who could risk her life to save her sister.áThe operation was a success, Carol is now married to me with 2 children, 2 1/2 yr old Liam and 13 mos old Reagan. I did not know her when she did this selfless act, but I see the scar everyday and also see Leslie a few times a week, and I never stop remembering her bravery.

Charity

Hall of Fame Story: My amazing friend, so appropriately named, Charity, gave my son a second chance at life by giving up a piece of her liver and an amazing amount of love. Justice, now two and a half, with two years of a healthy liver now behind him, is off of immunosuppression and confronting the world with the exuberance that only two year olds possess. To my friend and hero, thank you.

Hall of Fame Story: As worded by Liver transplant surgeon Dr. Subash Gupta at Apollo Hospital New Delhi, Ekta Singh is the first PhD holder in the country who willingly came forward to donate a liver to save the life of her Father-in-Law (my father). She is a brave woman to have been able to crush the psychological negativity ballooned by sympathizers both pre and post operation. My father could survive for only four days, but my wife could set a landmark example with a message to the contemporaries and elders as well. For contemporaries, its that parents really deserve your action. For elders, its that children and spouses of children love you and care for you, need is to just initiate the closeness. In our case, our kids Ananya and Vasu were the bond of such closeness to our parents. About Ekta Singh, she is a PhD in Infrastructure and Financing from IIT Roorkee and after serving a few organisations presently works as an independent consultant.

At the time of transplant, the procedure was very new and had never been done at our transplant center. Laurie was brave, and as a young single mom, went ahead with the surgery fully aware of risks involved and the recovery she would go through. She certainly deserves to be nominate to the Hall of Fame.

Hall of Fame Story: I want to nominate my husband, Daniel, for giving his sister the gift of lifeand love. At the time this happened, Daniel was told he would be the first living donor in a critical situation in the nation. His sister was given 48 hours to live. He prayed about what to do, and it came to him to be a living donor. He had never even heard of a living donor. This has proven to be a wonderful miracle from our awesome Lord and Savior! Praise God they are both healthy and happy today.

Hall of Fame Story: Raquel is my daughter and we lived in Puero Rico. Andrea was her fourth child. In an incredible act of love and courage Raquel donated part of her liver at time when it was very unusal to do so. Today both of them are alive thanks to the guidance of Dr. Santiago or Puerto Rico and Drs. Schneider and Emre from Mt. Sinai. I think Raquel deserves to be in this Hall of Fame.

Hall of Fame Story: Jim generously donated 65% of his liver to his brother, Tim in March 2015. Tim suffered from an auto immune disease that attacked his liver. Tim spent most of his day in bed, as he did not have the strength to go about his daily activities. Today, his liver is functioning beautifully and we owe this to his brother, Jim. We love you, Jim, for the gift of life.

Hall of Fame Story: Pauline knew that time was running out for Joann. She had been sick for so long, in and out of the hospitals since 1994. The transplant was performed at Mt. Sinai in NYC. The transplant was a success, but in the following months Joann had many complications. On March 26, 2002, Pauline came home from work and found her sister had passed away suddenly. Pauline did all she could to give her sister a longer life, but it wasnt meant to be. She now has an angel watching over her always. The picture was taken the day before Joann died. The local paper had wanted to do an article for their upcoming anniversary of the LLD.
