Title: Others seem to think i'm crazy, am I? Should I?
Post by: Genesis002 on May 09, 2019, 08:37:38 AM
I've recently decided to perform an undirected liver donation and have the support of my wife and kids.  I can't really explain why, but it seems an obvious thing to do, in my opinion helping others is kinda' the whole meaning in life...

As a parent, my father is understandably reluctant;  Given the invasiveness of the procedure and length of the recovery i probably would be hesitant in his shoes as well.  He and others just don't seem to understand or support the decision and i struggle to justify it to them.  They think it's crazy and something too risky and impactful to consider.

Obviously my perspective on the matter is slanted and limited, i'm seeking outside perspective (hopefully supportive, but not necessarily), and perhaps some help in more successfully explaining to others why it's okay to do.

Having the support of your wife and kids is probably the most important in my opinion.

I donated a kidney in 2015 to my co-workers Mom who I did not know at the time. I also did not have the full support of my Dad, and my siblings. Since then I believe that they have learned to appreciate what I did and how that impacted the other person.

As long as you are 100% certain of what you are doing and the reason for doing it then only you can decide whether to proceed or not. Not everyone will understand or agree and that is something that you will need to accept.

Whatever your decision, I wish you peace and strength.
