Donor Trades?
« on: April 10, 2015, 01:57:48 AM »
Not sure if that is the best wording but I have a family member by marriage that is in need of a kidney. I am willing to donate but we are different, incompatible blood types.  Does anyone know of a reciprocal program?  I would donate to someone needing A+ and she needs O- if someone else would give to her?  She is 16.  Thank you for any information or assistance.

www.kidneyregistry.org has an extensive data base to try to pair up kidney exchanges, sometimes among several people.

Did you get tested to see if you are A type 2? I am and was able to donate to my husband, who is type O.   I had no idea there were subtypes to type A blood, but there are, and if the O recipient has low levels of the antibodies that react to A antigens, it can be a go.
