Reminder to Transplant Clinical Coordinators: Prior living donors get waiting list priority
If you are working up a patient for a kidney transplant and that patient was a prior living donor of any organ type, you need to call the UNOS Organ Center at 800-292-9537 and request priority for that candidate. If you call during non-business hours, leave a message and an organ center staffer will return your call.
Most prior living donors receive transplants quickly, so don’t delay taking this important step.
A paper investigating this topic was authored by UNOS researchers and published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. Additionally, UNOS researcher Dr. Jennifer Wainwright presented on this subject at the 2016 American Transplant Congress in Boston.
