Waiting is Hard, Worried, Anxious
« on: August 21, 2017, 08:11:48 PM »
 :-\
I began the process of evaluation to become a living liver donor for a young mom who is a patron at the library where I work.  So far, so good.  I was told that the last test was a liver biopsy and the need of my recpient is so high that the results would be rushed and then surgery scheduled.
I was told that I was approved pending good results from the liver biopsy.
My biopsy was Thursday.  I have heard nothing.  I've called and left emails and messages, but it is Monday night and no word from anyone.
This makes me really mad!  But I know I shouldn't be mad, but man, waiting is so hard.
On one had I was told that all of this needed to happen ASAP.  On the other hand, I know that nothing moves quickly in medicine.  Maybe?
Also, I am worried, I mean, were the results positive for liver cancer or something?  And if so, why won't any of the team contact me?
I guess I just had to vent.
But I had been told to expect a surgery date on Friday, pending good results from the biopsy.
So now...
Blah!

I'm a kidney donor (15 years ago) so I'm less familiar with the process for liver donors. All I can think of is that perhaps they had to get a second opinion on the results? But even in that case they should have told you something. You might want to post also on the FaceBook page of Living Donors on Line as there are more donors (including liver donors) that check in there these days. Might be good to mention also which hospital you are dealing with, incase there might be others at the site that have had their surgery at the same place.

Thank you so much, Fr. Pat.  Sadly, it is now Tuesday evening and there has been no word.  I have left emails with two additional members of my "care" team and a voice mail with the main person who is my information coordinator.  I keep the anger/sadness out of my voice, as much as I can.  I simply said, "If you can please let me know where we are in the process, as I haven't heard anything for several days, I would be so thankful."  I have even given them an email and text option!  Oh well.

Dear reving,

I remember how hard it was waiting for test results!  I donated a kidney to my Dad as a pre-emptive donation so he could avoid dialysis.  Plus we needed to get it done early enough that I could be back at work after Memorial Day.
We did make it on time, but there were lots of phone calls and I *niced* everyone many times.
Let us know what happens, best wishes for the success of this transplant.  Love, elephant
