Donor at 21 / it failed
« on: September 21, 2018, 02:45:28 AM »
Hello! This is my first post here and I'm honestly so happy to have found a place like this.. First of all, I'm so sorry If I have any grammar or mispelling mistake, english is not my native language, hope you can understand.

Ok so, I donated my kidney to my dad this year on august the 8th, we were a 98% perfect match.About a week later after that day I received the devastating news that no donor ever wants to hear;the kidney had a clot and it was dying. They had to do another surgery to my dad for remove it.

Most of my family wasn't very happy of my desition of becoming my dad's donor, not even my dad himself, I had to insist a lot for them to accept, so the outcome of all this wass terribly sad, and even more because time later I heard that what happened to my dad was mostly because a mistake of the cardiovascular "specialists" during the surgery. Apart of my dad losing the kidney I donated, he also had a problem in one of his legs (I don't know much about it but it was something about another clot...)

To be honest, I only wanted to help and I was happy because we atleast tried. But now, I can't stand the pain of seeing my dad go to dialysis again after all that we went trough, just today he left the hospital.

And about my recovering, the most difficult part for me until now has been the diet. My nutricionist basically allowed me to eat only vegetables, fruits, water, almond milk, chicken, no coffee (i love coffee.. )... I know it doesn't sound like a big deal but I have lost weight because I don't want to eat anymore.

I'm very sorry about the failure of the transplant. You did a wonderful thing, and it is sad that the results were not as hoped.
Most donors return to normal nutrition right away, although sometimes the appetite doesn't return for a while. So I don't understand why your nutritionist has you on a restricted diet.
You might want to post your story also at the FaceBook page of Living Donors on Line, as these days many more donors read there rather than here.
