South Abington Twp. husband donates part of liver to wife living with rare inflammatory disease
BY JOSH MCAULIFFE

Gary Rudolfi has given his wife, Karen, plenty of gifts over the course of their 26-year marriage. But it would be a tall order to top the one he gave her on May 17.

That day, at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Mr. Rudolfi donated 40 percent of his liver to Mrs. Rudolfi.

The transplant went off without the proverbial hitch, and, weeks later, the two are recovering nicely at their home in South Abington Twp. Mr. Rudolfi soon will return to his jobs at Laminations Inc. in Archbald and Regional Elite Airline Service at Wilkes/Barre Scranton International Airport, while Mrs. Rudolfi, a social studies and English special needs teacher at Pocono Mountain West High School, intends to be in the classroom come fall.

No hesitation

The surgery, of course, came with significant risk, but Mr. Rudolfi didn't hesitate when the opportunity arose for him to correct his wife's dire situation.

"To me," he said, "it was a no-brainer."
