Title: Limbrel--an NSAID replacement
Post by: Andrew Aharon on July 29, 2015, 08:48:30 PM
Limbrel is a fruit-based Rx made by Primus Pharmaceuticals. It is used instead of NSAIDs. I mention this because we donors all heard "No more NSAIDs after surgery." My rheumatologist prescribed it to me, but no one else has heard of it. My transplant center nephrologist said it was OK to take. But my (private) transplant nephrologist said she spoke with a pharmacist or pharmacologist (I don't remember which) who said it was some sort of NSAID. I contacted Primus and received a couple very thoughtful and detailed replies from their head MD who states that Limbrel is clearly not an NSAID, and they have never received a single complaint of nephrotoxicity. Further, the safety profile for long-term use is good, he states. There may be some nuances I am missing, and you may wish to investigate further. I mention it only because I have mild osteoarthritis and have found Limbrel to give me similar to relief to the NSAID I was taking prior to surgery (though I have since learned that long-term NSAID use is not a great idea). Just throwing it out there for all of you as this compound does not seem to be well known outside of the rheum world. Comments?

I don't know anything about it, but you might like to post it also at the "Facebook" page of Living Donors On Line as these days more people read the postings there. Thanks for sharing the info. I'm not at present in any need of pain relief, so I haven't researched these things much.
