The OPTN is conducting a major initiative to rewrite OPTN policies and bylaws in plain language and to organize them logically. Our aim is to make the documents more readable and easier for transplant professionals, patients and the general public to understand and use. It also will help establish clarity and organizational standards for future policies and bylaws. Read about the project. http://optn.transplant.hrsa.gov/ContentDocuments/OPTN_Rewrite_Project_Background_11-2011.pdf

The public comment period for OPTN Bylaws is NOW OPEN, from Dec. 2, 2011 - Jan. 31, 2012. You will find drafts of the proposed bylaws in the table below. In each row you can access the bylaw as it is currently written, a revised draft of the same section, and a summary of any changes that were made. Please review the PDFs and then click on "Go" to provide your feedback.

One major organizational change to the Bylaws is that all sections will be contained in one document [PDF] on the website, with a table of contents. For the current review, we separated the sections below to make it easier for you to compare the current and proposed versions. http://optn.transplant.hrsa.gov/ContentDocuments/OPTNBylawsPC_Complete.pdf

Please note that Bylaw Appendix L required substantive changes to the content, in addition to the plain language rewrite. Appendix L will be available for public comment separately, Feb. 1 - Apr. 2, 2012. One other change made as part of the Bylaws rewrite is that several items were moved to Policies during the reorganization. See which items have moved [PDF]. http://optn.transplant.hrsa.gov/ContentDocuments/OPTNBylawsPC_Moved.pdf
