Title: Is double donating possible?
Post by: oslinmommie on September 26, 2013, 01:01:01 PM
I am an altruistic kidney donor as of 02/27/2013. I just learned that my Dad is nearing End Stage Liver Failure and is being put on the organ list. Is it possible for me to still be a candidate to donate a portion of my liver to him? I know there are so many variables and tests - I'm not asking if I'm going to be a match. I just want to know if everything panned out perfectly - can an individual be a double donor? Please... I really don't want to watch my Dad die. Thanks.  :'(

Dear oslinmommie,

I am sorry to hear that your beloved Dad is suffering from liver failure.

This is really a question for the transplant center.

When I donated my surgeon said organ donation was a one time only event.  But I don't know if that is always the case

Love, elephant

We have had some individuals on here in the past who have donated both kidney and liver (but not at the same time!). I am not sure if any of them are active on here or not.

I am with elephant in that it would be best to talk with the transplant center along with your own physician - especially since your kidney donation has been so recent.

All the best to you and your father.
