Title: Liver resection vs c-section pain?
Post by: msbrogna on May 02, 2017, 12:32:18 PM
Hi,

I am scheduled for surgery this coming Monday. I'm donating part of my liver to a local toddler. I've had two C-sections and I'm wondering if I should expect this to be a lot more painful?

Just trying to prepare myself

Thanks!

Dear msbrogna,

Best wishes for you and your recipient!  You are awesome.

I donated a kidney, so I can't talk about liver donation.  I will mention that in addition to the surgical pain, organ donors have to deal with the effects of losing an organ (part of in your case).  This won't add to the pain, but is a burden on your body and adds to fatigue.  Plus the side-effects from the hours of anesthesia... But all this is offset by the wonder of your recipient's recovery! As for me, the fatigue was more of an issue than the pain itself.

Update us if you will after surgery.  Love, elephant
