Title: 19 years since my liver lobe donation and I'm still healthy
Post by: kjones15528 on December 24, 2022, 01:50:48 PM
This morning while I was getting ready for my day I listened to Scott Simon's radio broadcast about a ten donor/recipient kidney exchange, and I shortly found myself in tears. Then I realized that it was 19 years ago today that I was discharged from Mayo Clinic Hospital Scottsdale (Arizona) after donating a liver lobe to a close friend. It was the most significant thing that I've ever done in my life and one which I've never regretted.

At 71 years of age, I'm happy to report that I'm still healthy and active today. After the first few months of recovery from surgery, I've never had any problems with my liver, my digestive system, or my general health, and I expect to continue to live a long and happy life.

My story is among the liver donation stories on this website; it was important for me to share the details of my experience with other potential and actual donors so that they can experience their journey with eyes wide open. The LDO living donor forum was essential to me, and I encourage anyone who is considering donating to keep in touch with the donor community through the forum. There is so much knowledge, wisdom, and support here.

I wish you all the best for the holidays and a happy 2023!

Kathryn,

I'm sooooo happy to hear you had a positive donation experience, that LDO had a supportive role in that experience, and that you continue to live a full and healthy life. What a magnificent life experience!

Happy Liverversary!  :D  And many more!

Happy holidays and please have a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year!
