Just a few years after the creation of Medicare coverage for end stage renal disease treatment, including dialysis, deceased donor transplantation, and living donor transplantation, a mother donated one of her kidneys to her very young daughter. This gift allowed her daughter to attend school and have a life free of dialysis for decades, but not forever. This now young woman, with time available to search the newly available internet, was one of the first too find Michael's new Living Donors Online website and discussion forum. A prolific poster with a viewpoint sensitive to the anxieties of living donor candidates and yet strong in her own perspective as a highly immunosensitized recipient seeking a second transplant, the years passed as she also waited for to get high enough seniority and an acceptably matching deceased donor kidney. One of Gabriel's many readers decided to direct her donation to Gabreila, successfully, and we heard less as both pursued their lives in health and joy. Sadly, last year we learned that Gabriela had died. Long time members will remember corresponding with this surprising person as we all learned how best to provide this open platform and still keep it civil, lawful, and respectful in the wild early days of worldwide access to the world wide web.

Thirty-sixth and eighth anniversaries
Elba Ardenghi de Lacabe donated a kidney to her daughter, Gabriela, on June 26th, 1979. Katy Gagnon donated a kidney to Gabriela, who she met on LDO, on June 5th, 2007. Gabriela survived until May 21st, 2014, dying from a condition unrelated to her transplants.
