Drug Deaths Providing More Organs For Transplant Recipients

More than 1,900 Ohioans died from illegal drugs in 2012.

But out of those deaths, there’s now a glimmer of hope in an unexpected place. The drug deaths are helping others live.

Last year, 263 Franklin County residents died of a drug overdose. Almost half of the deaths were from heroin. Of those deaths, only two became organ donors.

This year the number has increased with 23 donors.
