Korean girlfriend wants to donate
« on: May 17, 2011, 08:05:23 AM »
Her brother (lives in S.Korea) has some kind of blood cancer and needs a stem cell transplant.  We live here in the USA.  She wants to help him.  Can anyone offer advise as to how to go about this?  Does she need to travel to Korea just to see if she would be a compatible donor?  Is there a test her doctor could do and then fax the test results to her brother's doctor?  Thanks.

If what he needs is a bone marrow transplant, you can get information about it and about testing at www.marrow.org and by clicking the "bone marrow donation" on the home page of this site. But it sounds like you need more detailed information about what exactly this patient needs.
  best wishes,
