Brother donates half his liver to save dying sister in a 'miracle on the boulevard'

Amanda Haynes is giving thanks for a long list of blessings this Thanksgiving — starting with her brother, Brian, who saved her from death by donating 65 percent of his liver.

For Brian, the fact his little sister is still here today is thanks enough.

Generally, doctors don’t like to do living donor transplants in emergency situations because it puts too much pressure on the donors, Abouljoud said. In this case, Brian had already gone through the preparation and testing.
And Brian was ready.
“I love my sister,” he said. “And there’s nothing better than giving the gift of life. And she’s so young. It meant a lot to me — and my family.”
