Congratulations! The time will go quickly. Here are my personal suggestions.
Be in as good physical condition as you can pre-surgery. Strong legs will be a big help during your recovery. Eat lots of veggies, fruits, and leafy greens pre-surgery. The day before surgery, eat light, clear broth soup, chicken and rice, is great, sits light on the stomach. No salads that day as they digest slowly and can sit in the gut and ferment, causing some belly issues after surgery. Take lip moisterizer along to the hospital and apply just before going into surgery. It will prevent your lips from chapping from the breathing tube and oxygen, it really was a big help.
Ginger ale tasted so good after surgery and helps settle the stomach. Get up and walk as soon as possible, use the pain meds, be sure to have a BM before leaving the hospital, really, that is very important. And rest as much as possible, hospitals can be noisy so take along some ear plugs, the orange ones, to at least muffle the sounds. Visitors are nice, but let them visit at home. Those first few days, you really need to nap every chance you get between them coming in to check vitals at all hours, get you up walking, then using the bathroom, showering, you will get exhausted quickly from the anesthetic. A few close family members or freinds to sit with you are great. It is nice to know someone is there when you wake up and need something, like a drink when you are just back from surgery.
