You many not have been directly impacted, as I was, by Hurricane Sandy, but the indirect effects have already been, or will be, felt by everyone on the planet. Many people lost their lives, their possessions, or their livelihoods in six nations. Direct costs in money and goods have already affected global commerce. Global politics regarding climate science and the roles and responsibilities of individuals, municipalities, states, nations, and non-governmental organizations have experienced an inflection point in the dialectics of all those bidding for the leadership of state power.
Amid this global and personal realignment, individuals made generous, selfless decisions in support of the helpless and the needy. Even as medical centers shifted to emergency footing, or evacuated, treatment for those with chronic end stage organ failure continued, and would be donors continued to make that crucial decision to present themselves as candidates to be considered. We remember those who have gone before, and know that each one's experience has affected those that follow, in some way. Thank you, all, for your gifts.
Thirty-sixth anniversary:
Susan Inoue donated a kidney to her brother, Stephen, on November 4th, 1976
Twenty-ninth anniversary:
Fr. Gerry Pehler O.F.M.Cap. donated a kidney to his brother Nov. 15th, 1983. Both were present at the 2010 "Transplant Games" in Wisconsin, where the recipient competed as an athlete for "Team Wisconsin", with wife and daughter cheering him on.
Twenty-seventh anniversary:
Mike Hogan donated a kidney to his brother, Kevin, on November 8th, 1985
Twenty-third anniversary:
Lynne donated a kidney to her stepsister, Michelle, on November 20th, 1989
Teresa A. Smith donated part of her liver to her 21-month-old daughter, Alyssa on November 25th, 1989. She is the first living liver donor in the US.
Twenty-first anniversary:
Michael Murphy, founder of LDO!, donated a kidney to his sister on November 20th, 1991
Thirteenth anniversary:
John C. Fama donated a kidney to his brother-in-law in November, 1999
Jamie Smith donated a kidney to her father, Raymond Marsh, on November 15th, 1999, his second transplant. Though he died 4 years later, at age 48, Jamie "would do it again in a heartbeat."

Patricia Roche donated a kidney to her father on November 1st, 2000
Daniel donated a kidney to his wife on November 8th, 2000

Kristin Mulhall donated a kidney to her father on November 13th, 2001
