HAVE YOU VOLUNTEERED TO DONATE A KIDNEY TO A STRANGER?

You may be eligible to participate in research if you: are 18 - 55 years old, have volunteered to donate a kidney to someone you do not know (someone who was not a friend or relative before the donation), and are medically healthy.

Georgetown University researchers in the Laboratory on Social and Affective Neuroscience are seeking adults who have volunteered to donate a kidney to participate in a research study in Washington DC. Participation may include online surveys, paper-pencil questionnaires, computer tasks, brain imaging using MRI scans, and psychological interviews.

Qualified participants may be paid $20 for an initial screening and $150 for laboratory testing that includes computer tasks and a brain scan. Travel to Georgetown University for qualified participants will be scheduled at your convenience, and all travel expenses will be covered by the researchers. Covered travel expenses include the cost of a flight to Washington, DC, 2 nights stay in a hotel, 1 meal, and other expenses (e.g., cabs, airport parking, baggage fees). We are hoping to complete testing by December 2015.

Are you seeking only non-directed donors, or do you also want directed donors to strangers or kidney paired donation donors?

Hello,

Thanks for your interest in our research and I greatly apologize for the delay in response. We did not see your post!

We are recruiting donors who did not know the person they donated to prior to deciding they wanted to donate. If you are a directed-donor, but the recipient was a stranger before you decided you wanted to donate, then you are likely eligible. If you are interested in speaking further, please give us a call at 202-687-6853. We are still looking for a few more donors to participate in our study!

Additionally, if you are unable to travel to Washington DC to participate, we have several online studies that you can complete from home at your convenience that we would love to have any and all non-directed donors participate in. Again, if you donated via direct or paired donation but you didn't know the recipient prior to donating, then you are likely eligible for these online studies as well.

Thanks so much,
Emily Robertson
