How can I donate my kidney specifically to a black woman, trans or nonbinary person?

I've been told they "don't discriminate".

1) Whose policy is that?

2) How can it be changed?

3) Who might be able to help me?

4) How could I identify a black woman, trans or nonbinary person to *direct* my kidney donation to?

The intentions is to do one tiny thing to compensate for centuries of discrimination and to move our society a tiny bit closer to equity. In case that isn't clear.

Any help greatly appreciated!

You'll need to find someone who needs a kidney transplant who fits your criteria and ask him/her/them if you can be a "directed donor". Being a "directed donor" means you specify the person to whom you are donating. You'll then go through the testing process to see if you're a match to that person.

This approach is in contrast to what you were probably told about -- a "nondirected" donation. In that approach, you offer to donate through a transplant center and they allocate the kidney to the person who matches you who is most in need, without regard to race, gender, etc.

Thanks, Michael! Are their platforms on which one could find someone who fits my criteria who needs a kidney?

Michael

The best route is to reach out to friends, family, and members of any organizations you belong to (religious, social, etc.), and ask if they know of anyone in need. There are also several Facebook group pages with people needing kidneys. Just be prepared to defend yourself when you say you have a specific target in mind.
