Making the ultimate donation
By Meg Hagerty

When Monica Jacobs gathers with good friends this Thanksgiving, she will have forged a bond with one teenager that goes beyond family friendship.

The 40-year-old Queensbury wife and mother was part of a living organ donation in which she gave one of her kidneys to a Burlington, Vt., girl, the daughter of her husband's best friend.

While Jacobs has been called heroic for sacrificing her kidney, she sees her organ donation as simply something she had to do.

"These people are like our family," Jacobs said. "You can't imagine what this little girl has been through."
