Right kidney donation
« on: July 18, 2014, 02:52:26 PM »
Hi all! I've recently been approved to donate!! My left kidney (Al) is a bit bigger and functions a bit better than my right (Ginger) so I'll be keeping that one. I was told by the doctor that in my case he felt like there will be enough room to still perform the surgery laparoscopically. So I'm just curious to hear if any of you have donated your right kidney without it being an open nephrectomy. Thanks in advance!

I donated my right kidney by way of a hand assisted laparoscopic on February 12th of this year for similar reasons. I had no problems. The surgery went very well, healing was quick. I was back at work in three week weeks and felt completely like myself again at the 4 week mark. Good luck. This is the most fulfilling thing I have ever done.
