post donation issues for recipient
« on: January 28, 2015, 03:50:24 PM »
I was active on this board quite some time ago, but circumstances took me away.  I donated to my daughter 7 years ago.  Within 6 months, that kidney failed.  It never worked as well as expected :'(  7 years later & she is STILL on dialysis and NOT on the list.  She has developed a multitude of other medical issues unrelated to the donation (at least we don't THINK that was the issue).  She has gastroperesis, pancreatitis, has had peritonitis twice (she's doing peritonital dialysis now).  Now, she is severely depressed and is losing all hope.
Do any of you know of someone who developed other issues & what became of that?  We are both nearing our breaking point.  If she doesn't get some kind of hope very soon, she may consider stopping dialysis altogether.

Sorry to hear you're both dealing with this, and have been for so long. She's not a candidate for transplantation? Even after you gave her one of yours? Are you satisfied with your caregivers? Do you have any opportunity to speak to another nephrologist for a second opinion? Do take care.
Unrelated directed kidney donor in 2003, recipient and I both well.
