Eight Years Out
« on: November 12, 2015, 08:30:29 PM »
Today is my kidneyversary and want to take this opportunity to thank all those on LDO who supported me over these years.
I am happy to report that both my recipient and myself are doing well. Donating a kidney was not an easy decision for me. I never considered my left kidney a "spare" or an "extra" and for many years I did feel like I was driving on my spare.

My most recent labs in Jan 2015 showed a creatinine of 0.9. My blood pressure tends to hover around 120-130/70-80. The donation changed my life in many ways. I went back to school and became a registered nurse with a Masters in Science. I currently work as transplant nurse coordinator for stem cell transplant. It is an honor and privilege to help patients and their families. Transplant coordinators have a tough job but very rewarding!

Congratulations to you Sherri! Sounds like great lab results and I know this was a life changing experience for you!

Our kidneyversary was very timely spent at my husband's annual visit to the center. He is doing well and hope your brother is doing well also.

Thanks again for all you do for the other donors and for this website!

Congratulation and thank you. The information and support I found here from people like you was of great help. Reading about the personal experiences of others is invaluable to so many that are still at the information gathering / decision stage.

Congratulations!  Your donation was about a year before mine, and I was an avid reader of your comments!  Glad to hear you are doing well!

At 7 years out, both me and my mother are doing fine.  I was in a paired list exchange, so I don't know how the recipient of "my" kidney is doing, but as long as my mom is good, I'll just assume he is good too!

Donated my left kidney in NEPKE's "list exchange" in October 2008 allowing my mother to receive a deceased donor kidney in November 2008.
