A nonprofit crucial to operating the US organ transplant system has furloughed more than 90 employees because of the federal shutdown as lawmakers remain at an impasse over a government spending deal.
The United Network for Organ Sharing in an emailed statement to Bloomberg Government said it was unable to continue funding the salaries of certain employees and that the Trump administration had indicated it won't cover these costs. The group also said the government owed several months' worth of reimbursement, totaling more than $10 million.
