I'm on track to donate a kidney to my Dad this Thursday, June 13.  I'm excited for him.  Any last-minute tips?  I know about loose-fitting clothes and prunes...

Look forward to joining the living donor club.

Dave.
You are a great son!! Your dad will feel like a million bucks..I have a small tip for ya,,

Icy hot patches are one thing that really helped my shoulders and back.

As far as loose clothing, they were for me so I did not have anything tight on my incision (my incision is vertical). What I ended up doing is getting those tie up on the waist Hanes pajamas..and a pair of slip on night shoes (ones I did not have to pull up, because I could not bend over.)

Take the urine collection bottle from the hospital home!! It will come in handy...LOL

Let us know how you did.

LUCK BROTHER!!

Best of luck to you. My suggestion to you is walk, as early and as often as possible. If he is able, take your dad for walks with you. Praying for a successful surgery for you both.

Thanks, flacapt and DiggityLady, for the tips and good wishes.  I'll post updates from the other side.

Dear Dave,

I pray all goes well for you and your beloved father!

I wished I had earplugs in the hospital, it's a noisy place.

Love, elephant

Do the deep breathing exercises regularly, I didn't, and about 5 days post op I was having shortness of breath, I agree walking helps greatly, but only do it if you feel ready, I tried walking the first day and it was extremely uncomfortable and nearly caused me to vomit, don't try to rush recovery.  I am 1 week post surgery now and healing and feeling very well.  Good luck with your surgery, your dad has a great son.
