Hello!  I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge of anti-fungal (for toenail fungus) drugs that are safe for kidney donors.  Lamisil is the most common drug I believe and it is clear it can cause liver damage but I cannot find anything conclusive for kidney safety.  It says "tell your doctor."  I have a podiatrist appt in a couple days so want to be prepared in my knowledge, and really hoping to clear up some ugly toes :(.  I took Lamisil 20 years ago and it worked great.

     Hi. I don't know the answer to your question. I myself (kidney donor) decided to not take that medication, but just out of an abundance of caution. I don't really know if it might be dangerous for one-kidney folks. So please do ask your doctor. You might also want to post your question at the FaceBook page of Living Donors on Line, as more donors check in there.

Hi Julie,
You can use tea tree oil. Even before I donated a kidney, that's what I used. Make sure it is a good quality essential oil. I like the brand "Edens Garden" (I buy it on Amazon) and it works great. I use a q-tip to apply it. Hope this helps! :)
