Congrats and happy anniversary to all of the Feb donors.   I'm glad to see the forum survive the web page crash or whatever took it down.  It was the best source of information for both pre and post donation.   Thanks Fr Pat for your 'always' presence.

Cheers

Best wishes and congratulations to all February donors!

This is also my first post on the new board and I am happy to be here. Many, many thanks to The Powers That Be for your excellent ongoing stewardship.

As I took up running after kidney donation in order to get (and stay) in good health, I've been happy at times to point out to potential living donors that I have even managed to run several full Marathons in my 60's. It is important, I think, for potential donors to know the stories of donors who had complications from donation, but also to know the stories of those who have done well and retruned to full activities.
Well as it turned out I signed up to run the "Okinawa Marathon" here in Japan, and this year the date of the race happened to be February 20-- the exact anniversary of my kidney donation 9 years ago! So I donned my best "Donate Life" t-shirt and set out to run. But alas it seems that having received my Medicare card on turning 65 last December has put a jinx on my Marathon career. I made it to the 15-mile time-cut-off point within the required time, but then lost steam on the next hilly section. So, I missed the 20-mile time-cut-off by about 2 minutes  and joined the other did-not-finishers on the shuttle buses. Probably just as well, as the final 6 miles would have been quite a challenge at that point. So I did not get my "finisher" medal this year, but did get a snazzy new "Okinawa Marathon" t-shirt.
Of course at 65 it would be pretty silly to lament being able to run "only" 20 miles at a stretch, but I use the opportunity to encourage all living donors to take good care of themselves (and their lonely kidneys) both for their own sakes and in order to give a good example to potential donors.
      best wishes,
         Fr. Pat
