In case this hasn't been posted yet, I just wanted to share with everyone--

The American Transplant Foundation has a grant program for donors in need of financial assistance for the time lost from work. You cannot apply directly, your social worker must apply for you. If approved, they will pay up to $1,000 of your bills. They will not send the money to you, but pay your bills directly.

Hopefully this will help ease the financial concerns prospective donors may have.

I was just approved for the grant, and on the day of surgery, they will be sending checks to all of my creditors for the month. It is definitely a load off of my mind - one less thing to worry about!

That is a great, much-needed program. I sure wish I had known about that when I donated. Water under the bridge now, but I would have really like to stay home from work another week or two, but simply couldn't afford it (partly because my short-term disability check didn't arrive until after I went back to work, and then it was wrong, so I had to send it back instead of cashing it...).

Good for you for applying.

Best wishes for a successful surgery and easy recovery,

Kara

Do you know if there are income limits to qualify?
Thanks,

Michael

Here's a link to the program: http://www.americantransplantfoundation.org/programs/pap/

I looked it over quickly and didn't see any references to income limits.

Patty,

To the best of my knowledge, there are no income limits. You simply must demonstrate a need. Good luck!

I echo previous sentiments...wishing it had been in place 3.5 years ago...but glad that it is in place now.
