Statement from UNOS on the status of the OPTN contract

JUL 1, 2013 | BOARD NEWS, FEATURED, NEWS

As you know, UNOS operates the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) under federal contract. UNOS is currently in final negotiations with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for a renewal of the OPTN contract.
UNOS has been working with HRSA to ensure that the new contract will enhance our ability to operate the OPTN in a manner that effectively supports the transplant community and your patients.
Although the current contract, in place since 2005, was to expire last night, in response to a request from HRSA Administrator, Dr. Mary Wakefield, UNOS Board leadership has agreed to extend the current contract until July 10 to complete negotiations for the long term stability of the OPTN.
We have been making good progress in our contract discussions and anticipate completing the process before July 10.
If you have additional questions in the meantime, you may contact your Regional Administrator.
