Greetings!

I am heading towards  a  liver transplant, and the potential living donor is my brother.  He meets all criteria that we see on line.  He did however have contained, non-metastatic testicular cancer fifteen years ago.  He had the offending testicle removed, and had radiation to the area just in case.

He has been completely healthy, and now has two children, fertilized in the usual way!

It has been at least fifteen years since he had the cancer.

Will this cancer history disqualify him from donating a piece of his liver to me?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

It will be just one of the factors considered. Best wishes!
Unrelated directed kidney donor in 2003, my recipient and I are well!

The doctors have to be reasonably sure that no cancer cells will be passed along to the recipient along with the donated organ. I'm not sure how much cancer-free time is required before donation, or whether it depends on which type of cancer.
   best wishes,
   Fr. Pat
