Would be helpful to hear from someone over 63 who donated at kidney ..i.e. recovery -overall return to health and kidney function.

I was 62 when I donated. I was told that my age wasn't as important as my general health and the health of my kidney. Good luck!

I was 56 when I donated.  My recipient (brother) was 62.    No problems to date and that was 6 years ago.    We 're both active and healthy.   I went back to work after 3 1/2 weeks but recommend a full six weeks.   Went skiing at about 10 weeks.  Luckily, no problems.  I keep active both at the gym and at the dojo (Isshinryu ).   Jed stats all seem fine.   All in all a heck of a good decision for me to donate.

"Donated kidney to my brother on Dec 8, 2008"

Fr Pat

I donated a kidney almost 13 years ago, at age 56. I recovered well and have been in good health since then, still able to run a half-marathon now at age 68. That being said, please remember that some kidney donors do have a more difficult recovery, and some are left with long-term problems, especially regarding fatigue. So there are some risks involved. Continue to get well informed. I would gladly donate again, but honestly I was not very well informed about all the possible risks when I decided to donate.
   best wishes,
       Fr. Pat

I donated at age 60.  I got to start a chain.  Got back to work after 3 weeks but my job is not physical.  Sometimes I have fatigue but that may just be my age.  As long as I exercise, I'm good. I would say donation is one of the most significant things I have done.  It is a blessing in many unanticipated ways that I was not looking for.  For me, it just seemed like the right thing to do.  For another, that right thing might be something else. Thanks for asking.
