I do think having someone to talk to would have helped with pre-transplant nerves. Although I did not feel compelled to talk to anyone, I know others will. I was evaluated at one center (Rochester Mayo) and ended up donating at UPMC. This was across the country from my home in Minnesota so required determining logistics of travel and recovery time. I also donated with 3 small children at home (2,3,&5) which I know comes up frequently as a concern. Open to sharing my experience both positive and negative. While physically my surgery was a great success as was my experience with UPMC there was plenty I was unprepared and surprised by. |
